The Lafayette Scale Modelers of Fayetteville, NC, hosted the 2009 IPMS Region 12 Convention -- and did a fine job. There were 79 entrants who brought 402 models, some of which are pictured below.

I (John) brought back a large bag of Airfix, Matchbox, and Frog kits from the vendors at a great price !!

Probably the only negative, and this seems to happen at all of our Regionals, is that there weren't many volunteers to judge. We ended up with 5 teams of 3, including a couple OJT's -- we were very, very busy and ran slightly past the scheduled time to start awards. This isn't a Fayetteville problem, it's a Region 12 problem.

Two models in bottles, and not the usual ship model -- we all know that trick, even if we can't personally do it. The difference here is that these models were constructed inside the bottles, using the hand-made tools shown. Don't ask me how they work, but if a Wright Flyer can be built in a bottle, they obviously work well.
This is a fantastic display of modeling as it ought to be !!!

The 1/35 Chinook was Best Aircraft, Best Paint Job, and Best of Show.
Exceptional detailing, and a fantastically consistent black paint scheme.
