ECPM’s first Make ‘n Take for
the Beaufort Boys and Girls Club was held Saturday morning,
September 28 from 10:30 to noon. When my son and I arrived (a
little late), I was presented with a view of 14 children of
various ages sitting around tables, hard at work building their
models. Kids had a choice of two Snaptite kits: the Revell 1/72
F4 Phantom, or the Revell 1977 Monte Carlo Low Rider sedan.
Representing ECPM and lending a guiding hand were Andy and Pat
Fulcher, Joe Gray and family, and Lee Rouse. Ron, the children’s
B&G Club mentor was also present and did a great job of
supervising the kids.
I was immediately impressed by
how intent these children were on completing their models. Andy
Fulcher reported that although there were not enough sprue
cutters to go around “this is a good opportunity for these
kids to practice sharing”. And indeed they did. Ron commented
on how quietly this usually rowdy group was working (ok, it was
a little noisy!). He was also pleased that the kids were
learning to share, as well as follow written instructions, match
numbers on parts and instructions, and sharpen their
concentration skills.
I could try to describe how
pleased the kids (and their mentor) were with their finished
models. But since a picture is worth a thousand words, I’ll
just refer you to the group picture!
